Voshell was sentenced to 105 months’ imprisonment. ![]() Voshell was sentenced in Cedar Rapids by United States District Court Chief Judge Linda R. Voshell was prohibited from possessing firearms because he was a felon, having been convicted in 1987 of Robbery in the First Degree and Sexual Abuse in the Second Degree. A search of the stolen vehicle revealed a police scanner, burglary tools, stolen license plates, personal use amounts of controlled substances, drug use paraphernalia, and a loaded, stolen. Voshell eventually crashed the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot when he was arrested. In a plea agreement, Voshell admitted that, in the early morning hours of August 7, 2013, he fled from police in a stolen vehicle when officers tried to stop him for driving the wrong way on a one-way street. Jacob Voshell, age 46, from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, received the prison term after a January 22, 2014, guilty plea to one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm. Currently, District 9 supports Iowa State Patrol personnel, Cedar Falls Communications, Division of Narcotics Enforcement (DNE), and the Fire Marshal’s Office (SFM).A felon who was apprehended after crashing a stolen vehicle while fleeing from police was sentenced today to more than eight years in federal prison after officers found a loaded stolen handgun in the vehicle. There are several major four lane roads going through District 9 including Interstates 35 and 380, the “Avenue of the Saints” which is Highway 218, and Highways 20 and 63. ![]() Cedar Rapids was greatly affected by the flood and District 9 sent troopers to assist. District 9 troopers played a major role in closing and detouring Highway 218 for several days. The Cedar River flooded which closed and re-routed Highway 218. Five days after leaving Parkersburg, historic flooding occurred. The State Patrol was on site 24-hours a day for 12 days. Eight people lost their lives in the tornado. On May 28, 2008, an EF5 tornado struck the Parkersburg area. The only covered stadium in Iowa, the UNI Dome, brings thousands of people to the area for various events. District 9 had one lieutenant, three sergeants, and 24 troopers.ĭistrict 9 Troopers continue to participate in dignitary protection, Iowa and Iowa State football games, the State Fair, Farm Progress Show, and R.A.G.B.R.A.I.Ĭedar Falls is the home of the University of Northern Iowa. At that time, District 9 also housed Cedar Falls State Radio and the Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI). Construction started in 1977 and the new office of District 9 opened in February 1978. In 1946, the office was relocated to its current location, which already housed the Department of Public Safety Communications.
