6 Fortunately, custom prescription safety glasses can be purchased that can protect against radiation and laser wavelengths. There is increasing concern regarding the potential for radiation risks to the eye and damage, such as cataracts, 5 especially for those of us who do high volumes of fluoroscopic procedures (including percutaneous nephrolithotomies). 3 I would argue, however, that there is an easy way around this annoyance, which also can provide additional protection outside the scope of this BPR. As the BPR outlines, that problem is very common, as it was reported by 70% of respondents to Paterson et al’s survey and is likely a reason why many do not wear the laser eye safety. For those of us who wear prescription glasses (myself included), trying to wear laser goggles over glasses can be an annoying and foggy endeavour. 1 These data do come with some limitations however, if there were a high risk of eye injury with Ho:YAG lasers, one would assume this would be reported in the literature given that most of us do not wear laser eye protection. The BPR found that a majority of urologists do not routinely wear laser eye protection when using the Ho:YAG laser: 40% in Paterson et al’s study 2 and 19% in an international Twitter poll. This may also highlight that we need to improve our reporting of AEs. One would hope that serious injuries, such as eye injuries, would be reported, but Paterson’s study does cast some doubt on the reliability of the AE reporting system. This was a minor, albeit temporarily painful injury that I do not think was reported to any registry. I have personally witnessed one Ho:YAG-associated burn that a resident suffered when the laser fiber broke and was fired outside the patient. This finding would imply that laser-associated AEs may be under-reported, as is common with other AEs in medicine, 4 but it is reassuring that Paterson’s survey found no reports of laser-related eye injury. 3 In this report, 19% of respondents (50 of 264), had witnessed some form of injury related to the laser. Contrary to this study, however, the authors of the BPR describe a survey of Endourological Society members regarding Ho:YAG laser associated injuries by Paterson et al. 2 Burns, not eye injuries, were the most commonly reported AE. 1 In the review of Ho:YAG laser adverse events (AEs) cited in the BPR, there were only 11 AEs related to the medical operator reported from 1992–2012. Unfortunately, I often doubt that “practical” is included in hospital administration vernacular.īhojani et al report that with over 20 years of extensive use, no Ho:YAG laser eye injuries have ever been reported. The BPR reviews the literature for Ho:YAG laser-associated eye injury and offers practical advice regarding Ho:YAG laser eye protection.

What follows is the first extensive use of computer graphics to create a main character in a movie. Jump forward a decade and an experimental, liquid metal Terminator is sent back to kill John as a boy. The human resistance sent a single warrior to stop it and succeeds. In 1984, a cybernetic machine from the future travelled back in time to kill Sarah Connor, the mother of John Connor, who leads the human resistance against the machine uprising. It’s one of the landmark action films of all time, so it’s worth it. I’m pretty sure the statute of limitations on spoilers has expired, so if you haven’t seen the movie then don’t read ahead until you have. Today is twenty years following the events depicted as the end of civilization, so we receive a newly stereoscoped version on the big screen. Terminator 2: Judgment Day (commonly referred to as “ T2“) premiered in 1991. What was the beginning of the end for humanity was the start of a decade of revolutionary effects in blockbuster movie-making. Skynet begins to learn at a geometric rate. Human decisions are removed from strategic defense. “ The system goes online August 4th, 1997. This is a very mediocre and lazy effort at telling one of the great true crime stories of the twentieth century, and I found it disappointing overall.Terminator 2: Judgment Day 3D. That would have solved List's financial problems. That irony was that after the house burned down in 1972 it was discovered that the stained glass sky light over the ballroom was Tiffany glass and worth an estimated hundred thousand dollars at the time. Also the great irony of List killing his family at least in part because of the financial burden of the mansion he bought in New Jersey is not mentioned. It gets one key thing wrong - When List was arrested he initially denied that he was John List. The film follows List after he murders his family and disappears, but pretty much shows the same pattern in his new life that he had in his old one - He finds a church, gets married to a woman who is looking for security who is ultimately disappointed in his ability to provide, buys a house he cannot afford, and is frustrated by his lack of success in the workplace. If you don't know, List is infamous for having bought a mansion, then lost his job as a bank executive when he could not relate to people, pretended to his family that he still had that job, embezzled from his mother to meet his bills, and then when the money ran out killed his elderly mother, his wife, and his three children and was a fugitive from justice for 17 years before being caught in 1989. I'm not sure List was this powder keg always about to explode that he is portrayed here, but then the guy was such a loner all his life there probably is not much in the way of insight in existence unless it is coming from police psychiatrists after List's arrest. This was Robert Blake's first acting job in eight years, and he does a serviceable job playing this film's version of John List. This premiered in February 1993, so this was before he was a shooting star on NYPD Blue the following year. Because he is third billed, is hardly on screen versus everybody else, and he spends most of the time he is on camera mutely over emoting. There's a weight to the Vic Viper that is difficult to find in 16-bit shooters, which often look spectacular, but feel oddly floaty. It sits perfectly astride two eras, with classic 1980s shoot 'em ups like Galaga and Defender on one side, and more modern games like R-Type and Raiden on the other. The simplicity is what always gets me with the original Gradius. I would even go as far as to say that the NES port of Gradius is my favorite entry moreso even than the more famous Gradius 3 for the Super Nintendo, or the fan-favorite Gradius Gaiden, which is generally lauded for having the best levels and graphics in the series. The Switch version is the one that I tend to play the most, and it's left me with a lasting fondness for the series. Aside from being the progenitor of the Konami Code, it's the version that's easiest to access these days, as it's available on both the NES Classic and the Nintendo Switch. It's this version of Gradius that's perhaps best-known in the U.S. As former USgamer editor Jeremy Parish explains in his NES Works showcase, the 1986 NES port of Gradius was an impressive early feat for the platform, successfully translating the large number of on-screen enemies with only a few compromises. In its day, Gradius' unique customization made it one of the most popular shoot 'em ups around, even if it didn't actually make much money if this interview with team lead Machiguchi Hiroyasu translated by Shmuplations is to be believed. It's possible to get several of these orbs, making the Viper effectively unstoppable-assuming you don't run into a wall. "Options" are the most powerful of these upgrades, effectively doubling the Vic Viper's firepower with a small orb that fires in tandem with the fighter. You can spend them immediately for a speed boost, but if you wait and acquire a few more, you can start to unlock powerful lasers and shields. In every Gradius game, you acquire capsules that can be used to power up your Vic Viper. Gradius is built around a few simple concepts, the most important of them being customization. I've passed more than a few tranquil plane rides (remember those?) with my headphones on, patiently zapping red-colored enemies and carefully navigating around raging volcanoes. Their unforgiving difficulty is frustrating-I rarely make it more than a few levels before hitting that all-too-familiar game over screen-but also exhilarating. They're the graphical showcases of a bygone age, home to often spectacular 2D artwork and thumping electronic soundtracks. Nevertheless, I have a soft spot in my heart for arcade shoot 'em ups, and for Gradius in particular. Ceilings are always your worst enemy in Gradius. While platformers and other retro genres have managed to persist thanks to complex level design and beautiful graphics, shoot 'em ups tend to be seen as too simple and straightforward-relics of an era where games were designed around the number of quarters they could munch. Among other things, the genre fell out of fashion right around the time that players stopped pursuing high scores. The shoot 'em up genre died for a number of reasons. The last true Gradius release was Gradius ReBirth, which was released on WiiWare way back in 2008 to middling reviews. It's now been 35 years since the original release of Gradius, and like the genre it helped to evolve, Gradius has largely receded into the mists of history. Even if you didn't care about shoot 'em ups, you probably recognized the Konami Code, or the familiar silhouette of the Vic Viper, or those omnipresent Moai statues. For a long time, it was practically unavoidable. It was one of the most influential games of its day a shoot 'em up considered to be among the giants of the genre. Gradius had that kind of effect on people. During summer, whenever I'd find the 50 yen I needed to play a game, I'd hop on my bike and race down to the arcade to play Gradius," he remembered. You'd have tons of lasers flying all at once. "When you saw Gradius, and you'd hear the music, and the sounds, even though they were old-school synthesizer sounds, it was still just amazing-the world, the options. Like the rest of his generation, Kamiya grew up in the arcade, and Gradius had a profound impact on the man who would go on to design action classics like Bayonetta and Devil May Cry. In a 2006 interview with 1UP, PlatinumGames co-founder Hideki Kamiya talked about the effect Gradius, Konami's legendary shoot 'em up series, had on him growing up. It also has excellent motion handling across its entire refresh rate range, and gaming feels responsive thanks to its low input lag. It has an advantage over the LG if you use an NVIDIA graphics card because it has native G-SYNC VRR support that can take full advantage of your graphics card. Like the LG, the ASUS also has a 240Hz refresh rate and offers impressive gaming performance. Luckily, LCD monitors like this one aren't prone to burn-in, so you can easily use it for both gaming and work without worrying about damaging your screen. Because of this, it isn't as good as the LG for use in dark rooms, but it also gets brighter, making it a better choice for use in well-lit rooms. It has a 27-inch screen like the LG 27GR95QE-B but doesn't deliver nearly the same picture quality because it has an LED-backlit LCD panel with a low contrast ratio. If you prefer saving money by getting an upper mid-range monitor, or if you're concerned about the risk of burn-in, consider the ASUS ROG Swift PG279QM. However, it isn't a major concern for gamers. Unfortunately, OLEDs are prone to burn-in when exposed to the same static elements over time, which can be problematic if you have elements like the taskbar on icons on the screen all day. If you want to use it for console gaming, it has HDMI 2.1 bandwidth that lets it take full advantage of the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. It has fantastic motion handling with high-frame-rate signals, but there's overshoot with low-frame-rate signals. It offers a high 240Hz refresh rate for gaming, and it also has FreeSync variable refresh rate (VRR) support and G-SYNC compatibility to reduce screen tearing. It also has wide viewing angles and decent ergonomics that make it a great choice for co-op gaming or sharing your screen with a friend, as they'll see a consistent image from the sides. It allows it to display deep blacks without blooming, which is ideal for using the monitor in a dark room. It's an excellent overall monitor that delivers stunning picture quality thanks to its OLED panel. The best 1440p monitor we've tested is the LG 27GR95QE-B. 3500x2597px Waterfalls: Autumn Landscape Waterfall Waterfalls Nature River HD wallpaper.1920x1200px computer background nature beauty.1920x1080px Fire Wolf Gif, gif wolf HD wallpaper.1920x1200px Landscape Waterfall, waterfall, nature HD wallpaper.1920x1080px Anime, Demon Slayer Gif HD wallpaper.1920x1200px Beautiful Paradise, paradise waterfall HD wallpaper.4895x3267px Paradise waterfall, magical, paradise, waterfall, enchanted, pond, fairytale, beautiful, swans, fantasy, trees, flowers, forest HD wallpaper.Beautiful nature, Beautiful views nature, nature HD wallpaper 582x1042px Beautiful Waterfall, waterfall, beautiful, nature HD phone wallpaper.1600x1067px Nature Backgrounds For Editing, backgrounds nature HD wallpaper. 1080x1920px Bholenath, Beautiful Nature HD phone wallpaper.3000x2000px Nature, Mountains, Lake, Beautiful Landscape HD wallpaper.1500x938px Beautiful Nature Latest, Beauty Nature HD wallpaper.Beautiful Waterfall, Amazing Waterfall and Waterfall HD wallpaper 1920x1200px Nature, Grass, Waterfall, Shadow HD wallpaper.728x1294px : Mobile, Nature, Beautiful, Nature, For, Mobile, Beautiful, Nature, nice mobile HD phone wallpaper.2048x1305px Beautiful Waterfall, trees, waterfall, beautiful, nature, mountains, water HD wallpaper.Beautiful, Beautiful, Beautiful landscape, Best Beautiful Nature HD phone wallpaper 736x1308px Best 8 Beautiful Resolution For Your Android or iPhone Wallpape.1242x2208px Attractive Mobile Full Screen Nature iPhone, Beautiful Nature HD phone wallpaper.2048x1434px Paradise waterfalls, swans, art, paradise, waterfall, flowers, beautiful, spring, river, lake, forest HD wallpaper.1920x1080px Waterfalls, Nature, Water, Forest, Jungle HD wallpaper.800圆00px Autumn beauty, fall, colors, waterfall, autumn, nature, beauty HD wallpaper.800圆00px Amazing Waterfall, cool, beauty of nature, waterfalls, amazing HD wallpaper.Beautiful Girl With nature and Moon, High Resolution Beautiful HD wallpaper 1280x720px Beautiful Nature With Girl.720x1280px Picsart Blur Nature Background - HD phone wallpaper.1900x1262px waterfall in paradise, waterfall, paradise, natur, flowers HD wallpaper.1125x2000px Nature, Beautiful Natural Nature HD phone wallpaper.608x1080px Beautiful Flowers Roses, Nature Background HD phone wallpaper.6000x4000px Exotic and beautiful nature, waterfall, river stream HD wallpaper.1080x1920px Mobile Nature On Best Of For, beautiful of nature for mobile HD phone wallpaper.2400x3600px Outdoor Natural Studio Backgrounds, nature background HD phone wallpaper.1920x1080px Waterfall, beautiful, nature, mountain HD wallpaper.857x1523px Nature, Beautiful Nature HD phone wallpaper.3078x5472px Nature, beautiful HD phone wallpaper.Nature, background nature, Nature HD wallpaper 1920x1200px Q Beautiful Beautiful Village Gallery.1638x2912px Love Birds, Beautiful, Nature Background HD phone wallpaper.1280x800px Beautiful waterfall, tranquility, waterfall, nature, water, rocks, beauty HD wallpaper. It’s a classic example of the band bending traditional music to fit its own ideals. “It’s a beautiful song, but I was just not able to sing it worth a shit.” Others would disagree. “The song that I think failed on that record was ‘High Time,’” Garcia told Rolling Stone in a 1972 interview. In that regard, Garcia was never more unhappy with a studio performance than he was with this country-blues breakup song. Garcia and the Dead were always extremely critical of their recorded output they always felt more comfortable onstage, where songs truly blossomed, than in a studio. And without it, what would that music have been?”Īll those sides of Garcia - musically and internally - emerge in this collection of the 50 greatest songs that he performed with the Dead and from his solo records. But you know, what great man doesn’t have that? His bright side, his ebullient side, far seemed to outweigh. Who knows, but there was a decided darkness to him. “I suppose it had something to do with losing his dad so young, and possibly his finger getting chopped off. “That man had an agony almost that he had to fight,” Hunter said. Nor was he simply “Jolly Jerry,” as his longtime lyrical collaborator, Robert Hunter, told Rolling Stone in a 2015 interview. Over the roughly 35 years that he wrote and recorded songs with the Dead and on his own, Garcia was an uncommonly eclectic musician - equally at home with folk, bluegrass, electronic music, old-timey ballads, country, reggae, and Chuck Berry-style rock & roll. Just as the Grateful Dead were more than just a “jam band,” Jerry Garcia was more than just the affable Captain Trips of the scene. Niantic has built enough variables into the creatures’ DNA that each one is genetically unique, and every pairing will create a new, equally unique baby. At the adult stage, the creature will want to be “released” at a habitat where it can breed with other Peridots (the animals are genderless) and sire a new baby for you to look after. You interact with your pet to keep it happy and earn it growth points, leveling it up from baby to teen to adult. Peridot is a pretty typical pet sim, in the style of something like Nintendogs, crossed with Niantic’s vast mapping data resource and a new generation of AR tech. Niantic couldn’t have scripted it better. We returned home having had a jolly time, got some unplanned exercise, and learned a little about local history (and leveled up our pet). I’d never heard of these things or noticed this one before. It turns out that the point of interest was a Victorian stink pipe (I live in London, can you tell?), which looks like a lamppost without a lamp and is in fact a sort of giant straw that was designed to release noxious gasses from the sewers below, well above the heads of the good Queen’s subjects. I saw this was only a short stroll away and I hadn’t visited it before (I’m not a Pokémon Go player) - why not? We headed over. I noticed that my Peridot wanted to forage from a Habitat, which is what this game calls the map-based local points of interest shared by all Niantic’s AR games (in Pokémon Go, they’re called PokéStops). They were impressed that the game could tell the difference between grass, foliage, and paving stones, so the creature could forage different items from each. Our backyard is paved, but there’s grass across the street, it’s a pleasant spring evening, and there’s a little time to kill before bath time - let’s go! We set out and the kids squealed to see the Peridot running ahead of us down the driveway.
